The Challenge
Bradford Council has a proud tradition of markets, many of which continue to thrive today. As part of the city centre’s regeneration, the Council commissioned the development of Darley Street Market, which opened in Summer 2025. We were commissioned to create a distinctive brand and identity for Darley Street Market. This new destination needed to:
Stand out as a flagship market while complementing the city’s broader offer.
Build excitement and anticipation for its opening.
Appeal to both loyal market-goers and new, diverse audiences.
Support independent traders and reflect Bradford’s cultural richness.
The challenge was to balance heritage and continuity with the need for a fresh, future-facing identity that would attract footfall and civic pride.
What We Did
Working closely with Bradford Council, we designed a full branding and identity programme tailored to Darley Street Market.
Our approach included:
Discovery & Strategy - We conducted a brand audit and worked with council stakeholders to understand positioning, audience needs and Bradford’s wider market ecosystem.
Brand Identity Development - We refined the Darley Street Market logo and created a bold, accessible identity.
Darley Street Kitchen Branding - We developed a distinct but complementary identity for the new street food hall.
Visual Language & Guidelines - We created a full design system covering typography, colour palette, imagery and tone of voice, ensuring consistency across all platforms.
Campaign & Marketing Assets - We produced templates, posters, digital content, signage and stallholder packs for pre-launch and beyond.
Wayfinding Input - We provided design guidance for signage, to improve navigation and customer experience
The Results
The project delivered a clear, distinctive and modern identity for Darley Street Market - one that honours Bradford’s long-standing market tradition while signalling a step into the future. The refined brand positioned Darley Street Market as a destination in its own right, while the complementary identity for Darley Street Kitchen appealed to younger and more diverse audiences. With comprehensive brand guidelines, campaign materials and wayfinding input, Bradford Metropolitan District Council had the tools to roll out a consistent, confident message across digital and physical platforms.
